Setting and maintaining standards for patient-reported outcome measures: can we rely on the COSMIN checklists?

As test-developers we have often been troubled by published reviews of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). Too minor issues are judged important while other exclude the best available. Perhaps this led several groups to make recommendations for evaluating quality PROMs. The COnsensus-based Standards selection health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) checklist is latest set recommendations. While reviewing COSMIN literature and conducted using their concerns became apparent. not evidence-based, relying on opinion researchers experienced in health-related life. PROMs measuring types outcomes inadequately covered checklist. choose focus Classical Test Theory checklists appropriate use with developed modern measurement.
